Online Armor

The Online Armor range of products is designed to help protect your computer from the dangers lurking on the internet. It’s a jungle out there – so what can you do to protect yourself?

Surely your Antivirus will save you?

Probably not. Most Antivirus programs work based on signatures, which means that it must know about that exact threat, or one extremely similar to it before it can do anything about it. So, while it will give you some protection, it will completely ignore programs it does not recognise.

This is where Online Armor’s protection takes over.

Online Armor protects you when you’re online, but it doesn’t do it by checking the names of bad guys off a list. Instead, it offers a number of different layers of protection, starting with only allowing programs to run that you give permission. So, if you go to a dangerous website, something won’t just start silently running.

With Online Armor’s execution protection:

* Safe programs are allowed without a prompt,
* Dangerous programs are stopped immediately, and
* Unknown programs – those that Online Armor does not recognise – are only allowed to run if you give permission.

Blocking programs is only a part of how Online Armor helps keep your computer safe. Every website you visit is filtered through the Web Shield.

Online Armor will scan every web page that you visit and alert you if potentially dangerous content is found. Even before content reaches your web browser you have the chance to block it. Why is this useful? If you go to a site that you’re uncertain of, simply block any potentially dangerous content and surf safely.

Depending on whether or not you trust the site, you can choose to allow or block the potentially dangerous content. (You can decide each time you visit a site, or make a permanent decision by selecting a simple “Don’t ask me again” on the first popup you get).

Online Armor’s web shield blocks drive-by download attempts, ActiveX and Java objects – as well as manner of HTML exploits and potentially exploitable content that doesn’t belong on web pages. It does it not by keeping extremely large lists of dangerous things – but by looking at what sort of things are on the page you are viewing – be it in Internet Explorer, AOL or even embedded web browsers in programs such as ICQ.

As part of Online Armor’s broad protection, we include protection against “Phishing” too.

Every email you received is tested to see if it used the tricks that the scammers use. It doesn’t matter what the mail actually says, if a trick is used, you’ll be alerted. So, the next time you get a genuine looking email from a “bank”, Online Armor will technically inspect it on your behalf and let you know if it finds something out of the ordinary.

Once the program is running on your computer, Online Armor still keeps a close watch over it, to make sure it’s not doing anything untoward. For example, if a program behaves in a way that makes it appear to be a keystroke recorder or monitoring program, Online Armor will give you an alert.

Similarly, if a program tries to update your HOSTS file – perhaps using it to redirect enquiries from legitimate web servers to a webserver controlled by criminals, Online Armor will warn you and allow you to prevent the change.
